Private Lessons

One-on-one Lessons

One-on-one lessons allow for flexibility in learning once young children have built the foundation through the MYC program; or for mature students who have never taken lessons before. Whether your goal is playing Mozart at Carnegie Hall in New York, or playing the soundtrack from your favorite movie, schedule a minimum of 5 days of uninterrupted practice per week. You and your teacher will develop a practice plan for at home. The weekly assignment notebook serves as the communication link between student and teacher for assignments, expectations, scheduling reminders, and progress.

Lesson times are filled with a mixture of:

  • Technique, sight reading, ear training through various exercises and repertoire
  • Piano repertoire from the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada
  • Saskatchewan compositions and other Canadian music
  • Duets (2 people playing the piano) and other ensemble works
  • Student requests (such as pop, jazz, country, folk)
  • Theory and music history
  • Improvisation and composition
  • Recordings

Parental involvement with practicing, including sitting in on lessons, is encouraged for younger students.

Private supplemental lessons may be added to weekly MYC classes if a child needs extra support or has missed a significant number of classes.
