FAQ

Your child can begin music lessons at 2 years old in the Sunrise program! At the age of 3 years old, your child can begin the first piano-based class.

MYC is a parent-attended group piano class where students learn to play the piano, read music as well as other important elements (sight reading, ear training, composition, ensemble playing). These classes build a solid musical foundation in the child, regardless of where their musical journey takes them through life.

In each weekly 45–60-minute class, the MYC method engages the four learning styles through singing, listening activities, homework, piano songs, rhythm ensembles, and composition.

Generally, I do not take private students until after they’ve graduated from the Music for Young Children classes. Sitting on the piano bench for 30-45min alone in a private lesson often isn’t always the best learning environment for a 4yr old! We have way more fun and learn so much in MYC classes together.

Each registration fee comes with a 3 music books, activity book, MYC music bag, tinsheet, magnets, rhythm story pieces, and a castanet. Price depends on level (approx. $200-240), contact us for registration.

Tuition is $90/ month from September to May.

The regular year runs September 13, 2021 – June 17, 2022. There are 33 lessons and 2 studio recitals.
The studio is closed for all school vacations: Christmas, February reading week, Easter.

Summer lessons are available.

Yes! You need a piano to begin piano classes. Class happens once a week, however practice at home is a daily activity. Like registering for hockey without owning skates, it really doesn’t work to join the team in your winter boots.

An acoustic piano (upright or grand) is always the instrument of choice for optimal touch, dynamic control, pedaling, and resonance. If students begin with a digital piano, it must be a full-sized 88 weighted keyed piano.

Yes! Contact us to register. We have students ages 10 to 65 years old in private lessons.

Lessons consist of technique, repertoire (Classical, pop, jazz etc.), ear training, sight reading, music history and music theory.

The answer – daily. We will build a practice plan together in each class; however, to get through everything it will likely look like 15-40 minutes per day, depending on the MYC level. To keep up with the material in class each week, practice needs to be happening minimum 5 days per week.

Private students should expect:

Level 1-4 approximately 20 – 45 minutes.
Level 5-6 approximately 35 – 60 minutes.
Level 7-8 approximately 45 – 70 minutes.
Level 9, 10, diploma approx. 90 – 120 + minutes.

Yes, most certainly! Entertaining friends, family and fans are some of the rewards of being a musician. Studio recitals held minimum 2x per year, Saskatoon Music Festival, Saskatoon Contemporary Showcase, and exams are all great venues for this.
