Meet Hannah

Hannah is passionate about bringing music to life by nurturing a curiosity in students that connects with real life. In 2017, she received her Associate diploma in Piano Performance from Trinity College of London (ATCL) in Vancouver, 2019 became an RCM Elementary Piano Specialist, and became a certified Music for Young Children teacher in 2020.

She continues in curiosity, pursuing another diploma in piano pedagogy with Kathleen Lohrenz Gable; is a piano adjudicator on staff at the Saskatchewan Music Festival Association (SMFA), volunteers on the Saskatoon Registered Music Teacher’s (SRMTA) board, and serves as president of the Saskatoon Contemporary Showcase (ACNMP). Besides teaching in her studios, Hannah has worked with youth at the Summer Academy for Voice and thoroughly enjoys collaborating with other artists, choirs, and instruments.

Notable scholarships include the 2018 Bright Beginnings Grant from Music for Young Children. In 2019 Hannah was the recipient of the Dorothy Bee Memorial Scholarship from the Saskatchewan Music Teacher’s Association. 2020 was a challenging year but brought an opportunity to present “Making Music Relevant in the Life of a Child” at the International Conference for Music for Young Children (MYC).

Past instructors and mentors have noted “[Hannah]…has a special talent for bringing out the best in others, including her students” and “…is competent and professional, I most admire her for her desire to learn.”

Hannah believes in creating and sharing an environment for students to discover how music is relevant in every day life. Away from the studio, she often dreams of these new musical and teaching ideas while running, cycling, skiing, paddling, and vibrantly living life outside.

Our Teachers

Laurie Johanson

Hello my music friends!  My name is Mrs. Johanson (Mrs. J.) and I will be working with you all in Ms. Hannah’s studio.  I am very excited to be part of the MYC team in the fall.  I was a middle years teacher in Stockholm (Saskatchewan!) for 29 years and moved to Saskatoon in 2016 where I finished my teaching career in 2020.  I also was an MYC teacher in Stockholm for 16 years, fitting in MYC on Tuesdays and working with almost 400 students during that time! (Of course many were returning students!)  I am also a mother to three little (well not so little…) tax payers, (who are also MYC alumni!)  Those years were busy!!! I love being outside and biking is my favourite activity.  I will bike almost every day to meet you in Ms. Hannah’s studio for fun, educational and memorable music lessons.  When I’m not biking, I’m usually fishing, hiking, skiing, gardening, golfing or simply curled up reading a good book.  I look forward to sharing my gift of music and watching you all get smarter everyday!  That’s because…music makes you smart! 😊

Brenda Squair

My name is Brenda Squair. I have an Associate in Music piano performer degree obtained in 1978 from Western Board of Music and Mount Royal College as well as an Education degree from U of Calgary. I taught public school for many years, including bands, guitar, choral and everything from Kindergarten to Adults. The last five years of my teaching was K to 6 music.  Now I have retired and am enjoying teaching private piano.  One of my favorite things to do through the years was accompany choirs and fiddling groups, as well as perform in various trios. Now, I enjoy singing with the Joy of Vox Choir in Saskatoon. In 2018 I moved from Alberta to Saskatoon to be closer to my children and ever so adorable grandchildren. I have taught piano privately since I was 12 years old and taught one of my children through her Grade 10 RCM piano exam.  Sharing my love of music with piano students is a wonderful privilege.
